China’s ambassador to Germany called for Europe to be more open to Chinese investment, urging deeper cooperation in areas such as electric cars and 5G technology after a series of clashes.

Berlin is in the process of reassessing its relationship with China, a country it dubs both a partner and a rival.

As part of that process, Germany’s interior ministry has proposed forcing telecoms operators to curb their use of equipment made by China’s Huawei (HWT.UL) and ZTE, a move Huawei has criticised as the “politicisation” of cyber security.

“We hope that Europe will show more openness and self-confidence on the issue of electromobility and Huawei’s [RIC:RIC:HWT.UL] 5G technology,” Wu Ken said at a reception in Berlin late on Thursday to mark the 74th anniversary of the founding of modern China.

“China is in any case prepared to deepen a cooperation with Europe and Germany in which all parties profit.”

Germany’s interior ministry proposed the retroactive changes to 5G networks after a review highlighted Germany’s reliance on Chinese suppliers.

Like how foreigners are free to invest in China and get actual ownership stakes and legal protections? Oh, wait.

Like pretty much everything the CCP does, it’s “rules for thee, but not for me”.

My guess is that they are so used to controlling their people they probably think it should work for everything else.

“rules for thee, but not for me”.

that’s not unlike the ‘norm’ in many ‘western’ nations, too.

So we’re supposed to accept the CCP because they’re about as bad as the GOP?

          Fuck, that’s a big ask

He didn’t say that. It’s a fact that hypocrisy is common around the world. But I would say that China’s is so deep and blatant it should be able to be ridiculed online without anyone whatabouting.

I thought that would be a good thing.

Foreign companies would be required for citizens to own part of that company. China did it first though, others can have a similar thing. In the US we forced tiktok to a certain degree.

Helps keep interests in the country it is in?

It really makes me laugh how sensitive they are. They’ll kill people to keep a little satire from being heard. It’s ridiculous. Have they seen the withering condemnation and ridicule that the US government endures? Grow some backbone CCP.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

BERLIN, Sept 29 (Reuters) - China’s ambassador to Germany called for Europe to be more open to Chinese investment, urging deeper cooperation in areas such as electric cars and 5G technology after a series of clashes.

“But this fear of change and competition should not lead us to stray from the path (of cooperation) or erect barriers.”
