    For people in the US (not sure about other countries), unless your name is on the debt too, NEVER EVER pay any debt from a deceased loved one. If you make any payment of any amount, you will become legally obligated to that debt until it gets paid off. There are exceptions. There are always exceptions.

    That doesn’t mean debt goes away. If your loved one has an estate, debt collectors can be paid from those proceeds. When in doubt, hire a lawyer. But NEVER pay a debt unless you absolutely have to pay it.
