I don’t get why people are getting so upset.

It’s using existing funds, existing roads, and IndyCar is a for-profit league that makes money to fund it.

A circuit around DC could be pretty cool IMO. I’d be happy to watch a race there, just like when Indy carved out a street circuit in my area.

Of course it doesn’t nullify the train of bad stuff the administration has done, but getting upset over innocuous stuff like is exactly what they point to cover the bad.

I’m not upset that they’re making a circuit in DC. That seems neat and I enjoy motorsports.

I’m upset that this will effectively be a tangerine toddler pep rally. It’s amusing that Indycar is being used for said pep rally when ~40% of the grid are international drivers.

      Edit: better less word

      More like disgusted.

      • executive order, wtf?
      • distraction from …
      • still uses some government funds

      This thing definitely isn’t “innocuous”

Probably the same reason people get upset every time F1 or MotoGP add a new race to the calendar in some authoritarian country in the Middle East, but intensified because this time it’s happening at home and they feel like they have some skin in the game. Yeah, the race itself could be cool as a spectacle, but I’d rather series I enjoy didn’t keep signing up to sportswash the reputation of yet more authoritarian scum.
