I know it’s a whole lot easier said than done, but if you serve this military, you should stop.

Libby said she was told by her Casualty Assistance Officer that there are additional benefits that cannot be given because the Iran conflict has not been declared a war. “The missing benefits are combat pay-related and were missing from his final paycheck,” she said.

So…sounds like she’ll still get the monthly tax-free check for in-service death and it’ll be higher because of the dependent, and they’ll also both get education assistance. Can’t really tell from the article what’s missing but it sounds like a one-time retro. Some perspective on the clickbait headline.

I was referring to the dependency and indemnity compensation she’ll get from the VA. Combat pension I’m unfamiliar with; bow to your expertise there.

The amount of payment by the SBP will vary depending on the determination of whether or not you “died in the line of duty (LOD)” or due to some other circumstance. This benefit is either taken by the spouse, the former spouse, or at a children’s rate for the children of the deceased (there are specific age limits for surviving children).

Circumstances matter for both sgli and sbp, being at war matters I believe the article also explains that. Being in a warzone bumps pay automatically everyone else has to be reviewed for payment. It’s just delay and potentially payout if they say it was outside a combat zone or not combat related.
