The Xperia 10 VIII (the 8th gen) is nearly identical to the 10 VII (the 7th gen), the same chip, same resolution display (albeit brighter apparently), the same cameras, dimensions, battery, everything. Does that mean the build for LineageOS for the 10 VII can also be used for the 10 VIII? The older 10 VII isn’t sold where I live, only the 10 VIII is, and I’d really like to use a device with a headphone jack + clean software!

If LineageOS does not support the 10 VIII right now, I’ll probably still get it as Sony’s stock OS is usually pretty clean compared to other OEMs (particularly compared to the Vivo device I have right now!), and LineageOS support could arrive later (it’s only been a month since it released!). I also love the new lilac colourway for the 10 VIII :D

Given how lineage os works (was a maintainer in the past), no.

A new device even if 95% similar will not work with older lineage builds for other devices.

You need the other device build.to explicitly add support for the newer model or wait for a maintainer to create a specific build for the new phone.

Of course, non official builds will exist long time before they become official (if ever) so I would still buy the new one and wait.

if you can unlock it, you can get it running.

similar specs mean you can take the existing port as reference, but it probably won’t work as-is.

if you can’t get a device specific port, you can always run a treble gsi rom

Alternatively, I could get the Xperia 1 V (used) for a similar price, but apparently battery life on that model wasn’t great because of the 4K display (and used means battery could be degraded), and it’s a larger phone too (though with the slimmer aspect ratio)

The 1 V would be more powerful though with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and the cameras are certainly better (+ a telephoto!)

Or maybe the 1 VI, which has the more standard fat ratio (so the larger display is a bigger problem) but battery life could be better??

    What do you all think?
