When JIRA practically stopped supporting self-hosted installations we migrated to YouTrack and it worked quite well. Not as powerful, but the simplicity also comes as an advantage.

World News@lemmy.world•Yoon Suk Yeol: S Korea prosecutors seek death penalty over failed insurrection attemptEnglish
161·1 month agoWhich would mean they are moving in the wrong direction. Death penalty is a tool of totalitarism, not a characteristic of a healthy democracy.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Stop using MySQL in 2026, it is not true open sourceEnglish
24·1 month agoThat is an insult to PostgreSQL. PostgreSQL was fully featured relational database even before it implemented SQL. It started much earlier tha MySQL.
And MySQL didn’t have proper transactions or data integrity constraints (including foreign keys) for long time, while calling itself an ‘SQL database’.

World News@lemmy.world•The EU prepares ground for wider data retention – and VPN providers are among the targetsEnglish
11·2 months agoCompanies generally do not use ‘VPN services’, they maintain their own VPNs. This is what makes them virtual Private networks. The data retention laws are aimed for the ‘VPN providers’ who use the ‘VPN’ term for a different, very non-private services, used to circumvent geolocation and make tracking (even lawful) by some parties harder.
I do not say those services should not exist (there are legitimate uses for them), but do not mix them with actual private networks.

World News@lemmy.world•Millions of children and teens lose access to accounts as Australia’s world-first social media ban beginsEnglish
371·3 months agoThat is why I think FB and others might been quietly lobbying for this solution. This way they can stll be predatory, as long as the kids pretend to be adult. Or just abuse adult users. The alternative, of not being evil, is not compatible with their business model. But it is the business model that should be banned, not socializing online by teenagers.

352·3 months agoChinese manufacturers can make cars in China too, easier an cheaper, especially after such ‘technology transfer’ (they learn a lot manufacturing for someone else). And then the western companies cry about ‘unfair competition’.

World News@lemmy.world•Poland arrests Ukrainian teen “recruited by Russia” to vandalise monumentEnglish
1·6 months agoNot UPA, but the topic of UPA is popular within the right-wing populist. They want to keep this a hot topic, while rest of us would rather keep this in the past. Such provocation initiated by those populists doe not seem completely unlikely. Russian influence or just a particularly stupid Ukrainian teen seem more likely explanation to me.

4·7 months agoSafer roads would mean a lot of environment destruction in such case (and very high cost, for the low traffic there). I would rather wear some hi-vis and keep narrow rural roads rural and narrow.

World News@lemmy.world•Anti-immigrant rallies staged across PolandEnglish
31·7 months agoDo you even know what we are talking about? The migrants in question are not Russians. They are asylum seekers, people from Middle East or and Africa, tricked by Russians, Belarusians and smugglers into taking the route through Polish eastern border when looking for a better life in the West. They are denied asylum, brutally pushed back to Belarus (which pushes them back to Poland), often dying in the forest and swamps.
In fact Russians (most probable insurgents), as white people, would get much easier pass there.
And I am not talking about ‘accepting blindly’ anyone crossing the border. Just following the law (Polish and international ) and some human decency (like providing health care for sick and wounded) would do.

World News@lemmy.world•Anti-immigrant rallies staged across PolandEnglish
38·7 months agoNow this is a completely separate problem. One that has Russia and Hybrid Warfare written all over it.
Even if ‘Hybrid Warrfare written all over’, the people being used there, are still people and should have their rights and dignity preserved. Do not let people die just because ‘Russia sent them’.

World News@lemmy.world•Anti-immigrant rallies staged across PolandEnglish
111·7 months agoYes, recently a lot of people came here. With various skin colours. From the East, from the South, but even from the West (a lot of Americans would rather live here). I love seeing them in my city, hearing all those different languages. Also: Ukrainian shops, Georgian bakeries, various Asian restaurants – these make the city a better place to live for everybody.
But there are people who chose hatred instead. Of course only those with darker skin are considered threat. Or speaking Russian-like language (which includes Ukrainians and Belarusians).
When no migrants were coming here the nationalists/racists were mostly ridiculous, but now they are great threat to many people who live here, or just come here for a visit.

World News@lemmy.world•Canada to target steel originating from China with new tariffsEnglish
5·7 months agoAnd how do the USA tariffs lower the costs of producing Canadian steel? If the costs are the same, but the prices drop, then the production becomes less profitable or even at loss. How this would help Canadian industry when the steel production is forced to stop? Other countries have already lost their production capabilities similar way, it is natural that Canada tries to be more careful.

9·1 year agoI can confirm that ‘error’ and ‘mistake’ is the same word in Polish. I don’t think it matters here, though. And I am sure that Mr Sikorski knows the difference. His speech, although often harsh, is very diplomatic. When he says ‘Trump made a mistake’ it can safely be read as ‘Trump is a complete idiot’.
