Chapter VII of the UN Charter, I.E. internationally agreed upon law by UN signatories, which Russia as a sitting member of the security council should be obliged to obey, states use of force against another country, especially other members of the UN is prohibited except in cases of self-defense or by authorization of UN Council.

So no, every invasion is not inherently illegal. That’s only explicitly true when you talk about Russia, because like every authoritarian power they only care about rules when they benefit them.

Well Putin, if you don’t want a war with NATO, you could always do the responsible thing and get the fuck out of Ukraine and stop launching illegal invasions of your neighbors.

If a world war does kick off because Russo-Ukrainian War conflict, the history books will record it’s start date of 27 Feb 14, when Russian invaded Crimea after the Maidan Revolution went sharply against Russian interests.

Western elites do steal, true. But to no where near the same extent. We’d have trillionaires in the west if they stole as much as Russian oligarchs do.

Russians have been brainwashed for centuries by their elites to thinking corruption is the natural order of things.

They can’t believe that western nations can have shows of wealth and quality of life standards they do, because that means the way they and their ancestors have lived for decades isn’t how people are supposed to live.

Their elites steal everything, ensure education standards are low as possible so their workers can just barely manage to operate in a factory, on a farm or in a mine, and then encourage them to stay drunk as possible during their waking hours.

And then they wonder why Russians who manage to emigrate west never go home and sooner or later cut all contact with their backwards motherland.

Frankly if it hadn’t been for the advent of Nuclear Weapons, and Soviets stealing designs for them from America, Russia never would have been a Superpower at all and probably collapse in on itself in the 60s.

Honestly Russia is getting off easy in this case, if Ukrainian invaders had the same barbaric attitude the Russians had moving into Eastern Ukraine, we’d be seeing a lot of fucking warcrimes, rapes and looting as the army moved through. It’s possible there are isolated incidents of that, but on the whole I’ve not heard any reports, where in summer 2022 it was a weekly fucking thing for video to pop up of Russians doing just that.

Bruh indeed. If Ukrainians were half as bad as Russians have been in their strikes, Belgorad and Kursk would be flattened rubble, St. Petersburg would be full of husks of buildings and there wouldn’t be a single intact hospital within the city limits of Moscow. But yeah, please go on how Ukraine is attacking civilians.

Mobilized troops, not the same as conscripts by Russian law. Mobilized troops can be any age but are usually older with prior military service (see below). Most of them have jobs and part of the workforce proper, don’t live with their parents except incases of poverty or family health issues. IIRC the last mobilization Russia did, the average age was 28 but that number lilely isn’t accurate. Mobilizations are also targetted to minorities and very rural regions of Russia away from Moscow and St Petersburg.

Conscripts on the other hand, are specifically 18-20 year olds with mandatory military service after high school. Almost all of them lived with their parents before military service and usually stay in close touch with families by tradition. In the 80s conscripts were used in the war in Afghanistan, and high percentage of casualties were these 18-20 year olds from densely populated areas, which caused such a public backlash even the Soviet Union was forced pull put from the war and as result of that Russia sees it as a taboo for conscripts to be used for anything but national defense and training during peace time, though in the case of formal declaration of war they would certainly be used on the fronts. Some people have gone as far as to say there is an actual law about that but I honestly don’t know of thats true or just culturual taboo (and given how Russia operates a cultural taboo is much stronger than any law.)

Kremlin and specifically Putin have gone out of their way to define the entire Ukraine War as a special military operation and not a war as a means of appeasing the citizens they care about (urban Russians) and using volunteer/professional soldiers and mobilized minorities instead. Now that Russian soil is in danger, its possible we’ll see conscripts being relocated to defend those fronts, but even that is sketchy because of the taboo along with it being an open secret that conscript forces have terrible abbreviated training meant more to be a primer for further training at a later date rather than a set of skills that will keep them alive and make them efficient soldiers in the army. Most of them probably never actually fired a weapon more than once or twice, so against a battlehardenrd army like Ukraine those conscripts would get outmaneuvered and likely mowed down, hence why we’ve seen so many Russian units on the defensive lines surrender after first contact. They are poorly trained, have now experience, and their corrupt chain of command probably was awol or ran away the second they heard Ukrainians were approaching their lines, leaving a bunch of 18-20 year olds doing mandatory service and substandard gear being told to defense against a veteran force with NATO supplied gear and armored vehicles. All the smart ones, all the cowards and anyone else left over not brainwashed enough to want to die for the motherland surrendered in droves once shots got fired.z

Denazify and demilitarize Russia to ensure stability and security in the region!

I’m more likely to believe the Houthis just fucked up here, retaliatory strikes disabled their ability to discriminate targets they want to strike and those they don’t. Or the people they have launching the missiles not properly trained and educated on how to confirm targets. While there is a possibility this was an intentional strike on a Russian flagged ship, I have my own doubts given their general history with Russia and China and previous statements.

Difference here is that parts of the state not hit by the hurricane or otherwise saw inclement weather to any degree are also suffering power outages well outside the zone that would be acceptable. Texas (utility) companies doesn’t want to invest in redundancies to give their power grid more endurance than it needs for anything more than a mild breeze and some light rain. Over 2 million people lost power, despite many of those people not seeing any other effects of the hurricane. These things don’t happen anywhere else along the gulf coast where hurricanes are just as common, and just as heavy hitting. Texas just doesn’t regulate their grid anywhere near the Federal standard everywhere else, and it shows with every year for the last 4 years running regional storms taking the grid out in areas far removed from the zone affected by the storm.

Most of these issues directly relate to and are consequence of Brexit and no longer having access to the EU’s broader infrastructure and markets tied into the British ones. While they aren’t completely cut off, the additional borders the UK threw up only cut them off from the benefits of being in the EU in the first place.
