Thanks for clarifying
Thanks for clarifying
Skimming through it it wasn’t fully clear to me, is this just for their pdf editor?
What sort of protection are you after? Your VPN should encrypt your data to make it more difficult to snoop on your activity. I wouldn’t trust any random WiFi hot-spot just because you got a VPN encrypting your traffic though.
Always worth a watch to see what Tom has to say. Not all that interested in hardware benchmarks at the moment, but will be interesting to see how they evolve in the next 5 years
A tale as old as time, one day it will be dirt cheap again
After ublock origin and dark reader, it’s definitely one of the best extensions out there, cool to see it getting further support.
If they hadn’t sold their Nvidia shares in 2019, they could have sold them today for 90 billions. Can’t remember every reading a positive news about them, how are they still in business…
The multi thread performance would be handled by e cores. I guess the trade off for smt is no longer worth it with e cores in the picture.
A navy is used to protect trade. It’s especially important in that region too.
Frankly, for anything other than real-time encoding, I don’t actually consider encoding time to be a huge deal. None of my encodes were slower than 3fps on my 5800x3d, which is plenty for running on my media server as overnight job. For real-time encoding, I would just grab a Intel Arc card, and redo the whole thing since the bitrates will be different anyways.
Encoding speed heavily depends on your preset. Veryslow will give you better compression than medium or fast, but at a heavy expense of encoding speed. You’re not gonna re-encode a movie overnight on slow preset. GPU encoding will also give you worse result than CPU encode so that’s something one would have to take into consideration. It’s not a big deal when you’re streaming, but if it’s for video files, I’d much prefer using the CPU.
I consider the ‘good enough’ level to be, if I didn’t pixel peep, I couldn’t tell the difference. The visually lossless levels were the first crf levels where I couldn’t tell a quality difference even when pixel peeping with imgsli. I also included VAMF results, which say that the quality loss levels are all the same at a pixel level.
I was mostly talking about how you organised your table by using CRF values as the rows. It implies that one should compare the results in each row, however that wouldn’t be a comparison that makes much sense. E.g. looking at row “24” one might think that av1 is less effective than h264/5 due to greater file size, but the video quality is vastly different. A more “informative” way to present the data might have been to organise each row by their vmaf score.
Hopefully I don’t come across as too cross or argumentative, just want to give some feedback on how to present the data in clearer way for people who aren’t familiar with how encoding works.
Feels like certain information is missing. You get very different results both in encoding time and file size depending what preset you use.
CRF value also can’t be translated 1:1 between codecs so comparing e.g. h265 CRF 21 to h264 CRF 21 doesn’t mean much.
All Tesla will achieve is destroying their reputation. Going after our unions is a boneheaded idea that will never work.
That’s fair, was mostly curious what EU country was that similar to the US, as none really stands out.
Sounds like you haven’t yet naturalised to your new country based on the fact you said you moved to Europe rather than the country you moved to. Europe is pretty diverse.
What country did you move to? I would have thought the language alone would make the move a greater transition than moving from southeast to northwest in the US.
I scrolled for a bit and didn’t see anyone supporting the terror attacks on this post. Could you link to some examples?
The closest I found was someone saying what boiled down “what do you expect will happen when people get desperate”
There is a *big *difference between understanding why people get desperate and radicalised to commit terror attacks, and actually condoning it.
How often do you interact with tankies…?
Outside of dealing with the odd report on our instance, I don’t. I’m not sure what people get out of seeking communities they dislike/don’t care for.
I’ve muted hexbear and blocked some political leaning “world news” communities, programming.dev also hides political communities unless you specifically subscribe to them so that doesn’t show up for our users in all either.
Granted, I don’t see every report made on our instance, but from all the reports I’ve seen since Hamas’ terror attack, the worst one was someone wanting Israelis to leave the land and for the colonisers that are actively taking more land to repay the people they took the homes from with forced labour. Other than that one, even simple things like “Free Palestine” has been reported as hate speech. So you really can’t tell what a single person mean when they talk about hate speech or “supporting Hamas” without them elaborating on where they draw the line.
Of course there are places where people will defend Hamas’ terror attacks. You can also find people who claims Ukraine is ruled by nazis, that 9/11 was justified, covid is a hoax, Holocaust never happened, etc… The question is if you see those opinions popping up on “normal” communities and supported by upvotes.
If you go looking for them I’m sure you’ll find degenerates (why are looking for them though?), but they are absolutely not common in the all section from what I’ve seen.
I’ve yet to see anyone defend Hamas’s actions, even from comments that have been reported by others. What people do say is that Hamas’s actions does not excuse Israel’s military committing the atrocities that they are doing. Sounds like you are making up an antagonistic group that aren’t really seen on Lemmy.
This exaggeration gets tiresome, there are some great uses for LLM. The copilot autocomplete got to be one of the greatest QoL functions in a modern IDE.
It also generally work great for tech support, and lowers the skill requirement for installing and maintaining a Linux distro. Nowadays I will usually just redirect tech support questions from family members to an LLM.
Just because it won’t solve cancer in 10 years like the tech bros preach doesn’t mean the tech is without uses.
