  • I just finished playing X3: Terrain Conflict, and I’ll never play another X game.

As an achievement hunter, I normally play past the point of normal enjoyment, but this game told me, more or less, to go fuck myself.

The first kick in the nuts was completing “Dead Is Dead” mode.

You don’t get to save (with the exception of shutting the game down, but the save will delete upon starting it back up).

The game is prone to crashes, meaning you can have your entire save wiped in an instant because the game decides it doesn’t like it when you use the fast forward function within 10 seconds of a cut scene.

On top of that, one of the campaigns requires you to set up a massive complex of microchips and silicon, which also has a chance of triggering a crash each time you place a factory down.

The final 2 achievements are basically “grind until we say stop”. Which functionally resulted in me leaving my computer on overnight, four nights in a row.

The fact that the devs left the game in this state is inconsiderate at best, and disrespectful at worst.

Besides, the game is basically just an excel sheet simulator, it really isn’t very engaging.

  • When I was 12 my Mum gave me my first PC, it was a second hand work PC with a tiny HDD.

There wasn’t enough space to install The Sims, so I deleted the Program Files folder, thinking I don’t need any programs, only games.

I bricked my PC lol. Needed a tech to reinstall Windows. Thankfully, I could tell him I needed enough space for the game and he debloated it as much as he could. Legend.

I realised all these years later that so many games from my childhood had the issue of “floaty characters”.

Mario 64 felt so good because you could run at full speed, snap the alalog stick back and jump, and Mario would pivot on a bees dick and launch himself at your face.

It all depends on the anime itself, really.

You can say the target audience for Ghibli films are kids, but the ones who get the most out of them are adults.

Many of the anime I would consider the best, would include themes I couldn’t really understand the nuances of as a teenager, or even as a young adult, yet are published in Shonen/Young Jump.

Sure, but the show is explicitly a deconstruction of Neon Genesis Evangelion.

NGE was a deconstruction of ordinary mecha anime.

I’m not saying someone with no experience with anime couldn’t enjoy GL, but it’s wrapped in so many layers of meta, most of the themes and inside jokes would be missed.

I can’t tell you where to start, but I can tell you where not to start.

Death Note is utter garbage. Anyone recommending it hasn’t watched it in ten years, and is forgetting how contrived it is.

    For example:

    • The main characters play tennis while trying to win a mental game of rock, paper, scissors.

    • They turn a scene about looking inconspicuous into one of those over-edited Indian soap operas (I’ll take a chip… AND EAT IT!).

    • Misa is annoying as hell.

The target audience for it are teenage boys who listen to Jordan Peterson, can’t talk to girls and dream about beating their Dad psychologically.

It’s a mental masturbatory power fantasy.

  • I know they aren’t, I’m saying their claim is that they are.

It’s even common to claim everything God does is just and right. If gay people get killed in a nightclub, it’s because they’ve sinned, and that’s Gods will, therefore, the gunman was doing the right thing.

Then you get the people with cognitive dissonance who claim that slavery was moral because God stipulated rules about how the slaves should be treated and “it was a different time”.

Then you get the people who turn themselves into bombs and believe mass murder is right, and the people that died should thank them, because the psycho took their victims to heaven with them.

Then you get the people who vote against abortion rights because they believe the most ethical thing to do is save babies, even if it risks the mothers life, or guarantees poor life quality (either from poverty or developmental issues).

It’s ALL a moral claim. When your moral foundation is God, nothing you can do in service of what that God supposedly says can be wrong.
