Oh it’s totally normal for someone to shoot themselves15 times with a gun that holds 11 bullets. They probably reloaded halfway through.

Eh only 43% of the vote though. It’s just FPTP that cause the majority in the house of commons. It wasn’t exactly a binding win for Brexit considering the parties pushing for either remaining or another referendum won more votes overall. Plus a big part of it was a vote against Corbyn, rather than a vote for Brexit.
General elections are too general to be used as justification for a single policy IMO.
I don’t understand this argument re Scotland. Brexit was a disaster for a country which had been a member with a trading block for a few decades and which only had some regulatory compliance laws on its own books to amend.
Scotland has been fully integrated into the UK economy, political system, and legal system, etc for hundreds of years. It would be many many times more painful and damaging for them to leave, and joining the EU after who knows how many years of sitting up there isolated wouldn’t make up for what Scotland would lose by leaving the UK.
We should be arguing for more cooperation and bigger unions, not smaller ones. Further devolved powers, a better system for representation of the nations in parliament, kicking out the Tories and bringing in more beneficial policies for the UK, etc should be the priority imo. Not even more -exits.
Don’t bother engaging with them. They aren’t going to change their mind. That’s the downside with Lemmy. There are so few users that these obstinate trolls don’t get buried. Engaging with them just makes their bad takes and bad faith bs take up more space in a thread.
It’s possible they are a real person who’s been banned from most other platforms for spreading their bile and have settled here because the low engagement means their troll bait gets picked up, or they are a non US citizen trying to astroturf US political shit.
I sure hope that’s not the case. Would mean even more long lasting harm as they are on the way out of the door.
I don’t know if they’ll have time or enough political capital to get it through before November, and the reshuffle seems to be mostly trying to swing back slightly to the center, so hopefully they just write it off as a failed policy from Suella.
Good. Who even wants this? It’s a stupid and very expensive policy that won’t solve any actual problems.
Bring on the GE. Can’t wait for this lot to get the boot.
It’s hard to trust any of these numbers. 1 innocent death is 1 too many, but the numbers seem to come from Hamas and they have every incentive to inflate them.
Are Hamas fighters or legitimate targets being included in these figures for instance? The 500 dead at the “hospital” seen very dubious too given the scale of the actual destruction, it’s unclear whether that number is included also.
All three, plus 13 years of underinvestment in the country and mismanagement of the economy leaving us all poorer and more exposed to financial shocks.
Well this thread sure is depressing. It’s full of either tankies or people from Russian troll farms. Only one person actually trying to discuss the article, everyone else seems to be “whatabout America”-ing?
It absolutely wouldn’t be. What are you on about? A big part of why Labour are polling well because they look like a safe pair of hands. Starting an interparty factional war over who the new leader should be will completely damage that and possibly lose there election.
Half of the Tory base are either indifferent to a Labour victory or would actively vote for them. If you throw another Corbyn in the mix that will change and the base will come out again. It’s simple electoral math. Please stop advocating for more Tory rule.
Oh that’s a shame. Would be nice to have more clarity on that. I’d avoid posting claims that Israel are definitely responsible for that whilst also asking for people to verify things before spreading possible misinformation.
As you say there’s enough bad to go around as it is.
Seeing promising things about a 2 state solution being discussed at the Cairo peace summit. Let’s hope after the violence cooler heads prevail and we can see a lasting peace in the region.
Has it been confirmed that Israel were behind the explosion at the convoy? It hasn’t had as much news analysing it as the hospital strike.
Too easy to buy a blue tick and cause rampant misinformation to start flying. Twitter used to be pretty good for breaking news, now it’s impossible to trust any accounts without a lot of research.
It’s also a screenshot of a tweet. Incredibly easy to fake that.
Oh give over. Nice flavors are one of the things that get people off of cigarettes. If it stank of tobacco one of the big benefits for switching (not stinking all the time) would be gone. Adults like fruits too.
I agree the advertising needs to be cut back to a similar level as cigarettes. Plain white boxes with brand and flavors for example. But to outright ban flavors is a knee jerk reaction that sounds good but would cause more harm than good. I don’t think it needs to be licensed dispensaries either. Vaping is way less harmful than alcohol yet we sell that in corner shops.
Cutting down on selling to kids needs to be done for sure. How exactly that can be done effectively is tricky. It was very illegal to buy cigarettes when I was at school yet hundreds of kids managed to pull it off anyway. Short of requiring ID at point of sale and unique barcodes to identify which products were sold to whom by whom I reckon kids will find a way to get alcohol, drugs, vapes, and all the other shit we wish they didn’t have.
Putting in measures that mean fewer adults switch is guaranteed to lead to more deaths from smoking related illnesses. Harm reduction should be at the core of any policies around smoking and vaping. We don’t want to lose the gains we’ve made in cutting down on tobacco use because of some moral panic about strawberry flavours.
Israel removed all the settlers from the strip, why would they put them back in? Can we wait until they actually do things before throwing out wild accusations? There’s enough stuff to criticise already without making stuff up and getting upset about it.
Yeah we need to find a way to get current smokers onto vapes if they can’t quit, but prevent any new people from gaining nicotine addictions.
In terms of harm reduction they are wonderful! But they are more harmful than not inhaling any smoke or vapour.
Gaza was controlled by Egypt for quite a while. Israel occupied it and the Sinai after the 1967 six day day war. When they returned the Sinai to Egypt they also offered Gaza back as well so it could go back under their control, but Egypt refused as they didn’t want to take on all the Palestinian people who could potentially destabilize Egypt.
Jordan also wouldn’t want the west bank back (not that they really have a claim to it either) because Palestinians in Jordan tried to overthrow the monarchy there.
Now that there’s a Palestinian identity (instead of just a general Arab identity like it used to be) the Palestinians need to have their own self governance and independence. Absorbing the territories and population into other countries isn’t going to be a solution.
Both sides need to cut out the bullshit and negotiate in good faith to find a long term solution. Unfortunately with how entrenched the hate is it’s sadly unlikely to happen. The cycle will continue until both sides want it to stop.
Spain would probably be around that much if my calculations are correct.
