Impressively intelligent image choice and subject angle for the present psychological tug
There appears to be some confusion. Even an entire army got it wrong and went the wrong direction. Z team is supposed to kill P. team.
My feet, yours, or potato-supreme court king feet?
I never said it was sapphire, just that the owner was told it was somehow related and an unknown proprietary military material. I have no idea what it was, only the empirical properties and what happened with it. Disputing the empirical is insane. Speculating about what it could have been is the only space to talk about.
The job and requirements were specified in advance. Whomever setup that job presumably did the engineering to know what could be done. It took a bunch of inserts to machine it. It was entertaining to watch. But I was just operating a manual Bridgeport mill and helping when asked.
There are a range of different classes of protection. The kind you’ll find most often (often enough to show up at random used car lots), is still relatively light in the grand scheme of things.
The type of round and power of the load/caliber is probably more important here. I bet whatever was fired was from a rifle and was a jacketed piercing round by the looks of the clean holes.
One if the many places I’ve worked for a short time was a CNC an manual machining shop. The owner often bid on little military contract jobs. There was this one I remember that involved milling a small kidney bean shaped pocket out of what looked like 30mm thick bluish green glass. Only, it machined more like a metal. We had no idea what the material was made our of except that it was somehow related to sapphire. It ate up ever kind of cutter in the shop. Every steel, cobalt, carbide, or insert we through at the stuff would fail before finishing the first pocket. The owner’s best guess was that the panel was a small window from an attack helicopter. Judging by the way that junk laughed off milling cutters, I don’t think lead had a chance in hell of making a dent or crack in the thing, no matter the velocity from a gun.
There are massive levels of protection possible, but you won’t find them in a typically shaped pedestrian vehicle. You start seeing higher levels of exterior anomalies in the few instances where protection is more serious. Something like a presidential motorcade usually has a limousine that looks more blocky on the outside like there is a bulge around the upper and windows area.
The doors and glass of most modern cars have a lot more curve to them than is apparent at first. You are sitting inside this curve more than you likely realize. Higher armor glass is very thick and comes in flat sheet form. If that flat glass is paired with the curve of a typical pedestrian car door, it will contact the shoulder of the occupant. More heavily protected limousines have an offset that allows that thick sheet glass the required room needed to preserve interior space.
In the typical lightly armored cars, the door glass is a little thicker than a typical windshield. I honestly wouldn’t expect it to stop much more than a .22 if it was fired directly. However, remembering from mythbusters a long time ago, the angle of windshields and their lamination is good for stopping a lot of bullets from penetrating. This is the primary protection situation. That window is not intended to take direct fire, but is intended to deflect stuff while the vehicle speeds away.
Side glass is not laminated. Only bullet proof and windshields are laminated glass like this. When I painted cars for used car lots, I worked on several armored cars like this. They are only rated for small handgun rounds on the windows. It’s one reason you do not see military vehicles with similar large windows. Still, driving one of these feels like driving a tank. The doors feel like a small vault door in weight. You can tell that your driving a much heavier vehicle than it appears. The way the windshield is shaped a little odd is a small indicator that it is much thicker. The chrome trim insert around the window helps minimize the look of the thicker glass and gives away that the windows likely can not be rolled down.
Any typical automotive side window will shatter into pieces when broken.
When bullet proof glass was not enough. That was no handgun round.
I have profound and unwavering respect for the patriots that miss, hit an ear, and make their mark. Treasonous subhuman fuck of a shit stain. His supporters all belong behind bars or worse.
Who wants to press charges for a misuse of public funds for wasting everyone’s time and causing people trauma? This kind of person is a disgrace on more levels than I care to describe. He’s a jihadist. Treat him like he deserves, as a radical terrorist.
Everything I run is behind a whitelist firewall on an external device largely for this reason, but also learning curiosity.
I have the unpopular user’s opinion that I expect transparency in my connections and interactions. I won’t use any commercial websites that have ambiguous connections on a whitelist firewall. I expect all businesses to operate like a brick and mortar store in real life. If I enter a grocery store, I’m not entering a bank, a bookstore, and a restaurant to purchase an apple, nor am I selling or giving up any part of my autonomy in my quest to satisfy my fundamental needs.
Personally, in my opinion alone, I view any business that is not transparent and straight forward about who and what I am dealing with as illegitimate and untrustworthy. I view it like inviting someone to a house party that then goes to the bathroom, opens the window, and lets other people enter my home. Or like a retail store that adds a bunch of hidden fees to their products because of something like various distributor logistics costs; stuff that belongs in the back office accounting of running a legitimate business. To me, the practice feels wrong because the default state of the internet being theft of individual autonomy with no freedom of information from determinism. I must assume that everyone is stalkerware, so I must be selective about who I enable in such a system. Micro services remove all accountability and make the problem of digital autonomy exponentially worse in the cases where they are exposed to the end user (data).
Especially considering attorneys will steal more than half of that amount.

Indeed 12 years old was the time SW lit my mind on fire. The SW card game let me fantasize much deeper along with reading a few books. Now I feel uninterested for the most part, realizing I don’t believe in monarchy, authoritarianism, theocracy, or exceptionalism. I never thought of it as actually being children’s media, but that adolescent perspective sums up how I feel watching it now, especially when I’ve been writing some of my own sci-fi in a much more mature space.
I read, “fuck you Britain and fuck your opium cartel past.” Seems understandable on that specific front.
Never watched anime in my life and I’m not into ads or data mining stalkerware. Is there anything like a newpipe or a peertube like option just to check stuff out for the experience from people that do it for art and passion, or is it all corporate peeping tom apps versus piracy?

I can tell you first hand that disability is not at all like this binary mentality. This was a major injustice to what disability is really like. It reflects how stupid people really are and a judge that should be disbarred. Today is my 10 year anniversary of the day I was disabled by an idiot driver. I could likely toss a tree like this if I tried. It might cost me a few weeks of not sleeping more than 2 hours, but it is my right to take such a risk if I choose. Only stupid people view disability as a binary state. There are levels of misery and limitations you can not fathom. I can’t hold posture for long. You can’t imagine how miserable that really is. I can’t sit up. Laying down most of the time is awful. Simply getting dressed and driving anywhere takes longer than my sustainable limits and pushing past those limits means I will need several days to weeks before I can get back to my standard level of inadequate sleep I have experienced for 10 years now.
