i love the idea of mini pc too but i really want to be sure that they are:

• really good at low power scenarios and adapting when usage goes up
• really low noise and easy to clean if fans and dust involved (i wonder if passive cooling would be better/possible)

generally i don’t think they need to be very powerful for my self hosting needs

i’m guessing these pleasure super yachts are not hardcore sea fairing vessels that might not handle sudden extreme weather at all well. also might not be captained by people that would do all the right things in those weather conditions.

you configure your whole server in one file (including docker/podman services), installation and configurations is taken care of by the package manager, you pretty much only need to know one file to admin your system

and no extra stuff is installed only what you specify so you have a minimal resource usage.

i think this is awesome

although maybe not for beginners. for beginners use docker compose and do backups however you like

if your service has to be public i would recommend getting a switch that can do VLANs and put your server inside it’s own VLAN DMZ so if you get hacked they will be trapped inside the VLAN
