There’s this consistent line through modern history: right wing ideas are bad. It keeps happening. Right wing politicians have power, they do stuff, and it goes badly for most people. And then, somehow, few people learn, not enough decide “hurting the outgroup isn’t worth my own suffering”, and they get elected again.

From what I’ve been reading about it in “dying of whiteness” it’s not that they don’t understand. They understand. Conservatives just don’t want the outgroups (eg: black people) to benefit. That’s it. They’d rather die themselves.

Unfortunately there is a large contingent of people who would literally rather die than have their out-group have something nice like public transit. (It’s conservative whites)

Yep. Place I’m at is in some sort of “hiring freeze”. They’re not replacing people who left. They also told the many (probably not strictly legal) contractors that they won’t be renewing them. It’s absurd.

I don’t know a lot about how fingerprinting works, but some of what i’ve read is pretty insidious. Some things could probably be obfuscated, but some of what the trackers use has legitimate purposes as well. Your application may serve different content based on the screen size, or fall back to an older library if such-and-such API isn’t supported.

Personally I’d rather make targeting advertising and tracking illegal, and gut the whole thing to avoid the arms race.
