SSTF@lemmy.worldto guns@lemmy.world•$200 Tax On Silencers & SBR's Eliminated After One Big Beautiful Bill Passes Congress - Colion Noir71·12 days agoVery neat. I’ve been on the fence about a suppressor for a PCC so this tips it.
I’d recommend reading the original Thrawn trilogy. It is set in the original expanded universe continuity, which is no longer part of the Disney canon- but you can still read and enjoy this old version.
In it, Luke is aware he doesn’t have the knowledge of the old masters and is searching for it. Jedi knowledge was treated as more obscure and lost in the old books. In the wider galaxy, there are varying perceptions of Luke given that most people simply know he went into the Death Star II in handcuffs and left with Vader and the Emperor dead. Most people don’t know the details so fill them in with myth.
As for alien races, the movies laid out brief moments which the EU often ran with. There are tons of books that expanded what races are like. Going back to the Thrawn books, the admiral explicitly learns about alien cultures to better understand and destroy them.

Part of Andor’s low ratings I think are a reflection on the other shows that came out and weren’t good. It creates an environment where so many viewers check out. I’d say that Disney reducing the amount of Star Wars shows it puts out and giving the shows to properly talented creators to make unique high quality projects should be the takeaway.
SSTF@lemmy.worldMto Star Wars@lemmy.world•Streaming Ratings: ‘Andor’ Concludes With No. 1 Overall Ranking401·1 month agoI really hope the executive takeaway is “let individual creators have unique takes and expand Star Wars” and not “All Star Wars should now be dark and depressing and grim.”

Low quality and fake news is also banned.English4·1 month agoI don’t support using it as a basis to shove politics into everything, I was just following that this is a common trope of people who do, which leans on semantics while ignoring the spirit of people not wanting everything to be a political debate.
For such people, there’s no way to word a rule ironclad enough, and you simply have to make judgement calls at some point.

Enforcement will normalize the tone, and if a post is removed and the poster reacts will outsized outrage, in my observation, it was probably because they were emotionally invested in the politics of the post.

There was no line of succession or instructions for what happened if Palpatine died. His death, along with Vader and important central figures in the Empire in ROTJ left a lot of squabbling Moffs and Admirals of dubious levels of competence in control of splinters of the Empire.
It wasn’t until Thrawn that someone competent started consolidating Imperial forces again.

You can disagree without belittling each other.
The OP specified canon comics already. The Vader and Doctor Aphra comics are in canon.

I like a lot of it, even preferring large chunks compared to the current canon. It depends on your goal, and if your goal is to brush up on current canon then knowing about the canon split will save you a lot of time.
SSTF@lemmy.worldMto Star Wars@lemmy.world•Worth it to dive into clone wars (movie, series and game) for lore?3·2 months agoDisney bought Star Wars in 2012, and it officially branched its canon in 2014 away from the existing EU. What that means is anything made before 2014 except for the main movies, the Clone Wars CGI cartoon, and the Rebels cartoon is not part of Disney canon.
Some elements of the classic EU have been reincorporated back into the Disney canon, but often remixed when they show back up.
What that means is old EU material isn’t directly part of canon and can only sometimes at best be used to guess at what might be in the new canon.
That said, the Tarkovsky Clone Wars cartoon rocks. I haven’t played the PS2 Clone Wars game, but the Republic Commando game is really great and has a modern widescreen fan fix now. The books about clones were interesting, a different take than the modern canon with clones having a much more Mandalorian cultural influence.

This will be so that there’s no question why they screw up a mission on Ghormon. I imagine an ISB intermediary supplying them with a lot of explosives and telling them to blow up an Imperial target, but the ISB ensuring the group ends up blowing up civilians instead.

He’s a loose cannon.

I only watched the first episode and it didn’t grab me. The whole setup with Skinner publicly announcing a challenge to find him just kept making me think of Willy Wonka. It was a convoluted set up.
The rest of the run time being Great Value Spike Spiegel escaping from prison was so needlessly indulgent. It just went on and on and on. It easily could have been cut down to leave time to actually meet other characters in the first episode more.
Without the action, plot, or visuals especially grabbing me I just didn’t come back.
SSTF@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Russia has depleted its tank stocks: the industry is not covering combat lossesEnglish2·3 months agoKind of sort of, but I was thinking more along the lines of the U.S. Army’s “MFP” M10. Essentially reviving the light tank but adding some Science on top.
BMDs were still made along the trajectory of IFVs where they can hold troops, and like you mentioned the lighter armor from the airborne desire for use makes them vulnerable even to smaller diameter HEAT rounds.
My vague vision would be something more like a light tank (by the modern definition of “light” which is more like 50ish tons bare and 60 with all the fixins), with enough armor to survive side hits from low 80ish-mm rounds, and very importantly investment in active protection. Thermal signature reduction like a lot of new showcase vehicles are adding. Maybe even something like the new KF Panther where they have a dedicated drone operator to control a drone that shadows the tank. This all is kind of “if I were king of the world” thought experimenting since of course Russia clearly doesn’t have the resources to even make proper upgrades to T90Ms to bring them up to a 2020s standard.
How terrible.
