  • what do you mean? there’s a million refillable options out there. have been for years. the popularity of disposables is mostly about convenience, habit (it’s similar to buying cigarettes), and laziness. it’s a great example of how much people just don’t give a shit. it’s actually waaaay cheaper in the long run to use a refillable one. gives a better experience with more flavor options too. but it’s maybe 5% less convenient to use. therefore only about 5% of users go for that.

    i fucking hate human nature.

i have like 5 friends in trying to convince away from the disposables right now. I’m 3 years in, and may have one that would be willing to try it i bought it for him. it’s so fucking hard to change anyone’s buying habits. i don’t get why. these are all people that SAY they care about the environment. then i show them an easy to fix way that they are FUCKING INCREDIBLY AWFUL to the environment and they just shrug…

  • oh, there’s fields and fields of entire cars just sitting in all inhabited remote places. it’s becoming a real problem in Alaska. there’s towns there literally getting buried in dead cars because it’s too expensive to take them anywhere else.

generally if you think “i wonder if this type of thing is getting disposed of properly or if it’s a huge ecological problem” the answer is always the latter. the humans in charge don’t care about the environment. that’s not profitable.

  • obviously a news show isn’t going to feel the same rewatching it. that’s not the point lol.

that would be like saying it’s dumb to preserve newspapers in libraries because it’s not going to feel as good rereading the “Hitler is dead” headline. people don’t look at old news to have a good time.

boy was it silly of us to preserve that kind of thing and it totally never comes in handy/s

that’s not even what people are upset about anyway. comedy Central mostly makes entertainment programming that isn’t news based and can still be enjoyed whenever. believe it or not, comedy Central has a lot of content that will stand the test of time. especially when looking at their stand-up catalogue.

this is the destruction of a library. a digital one, but a library none the less. that’s what people are mad about.

but you’re right. we should just dump all of our old movies and shows. they’re worthless moldy junk anyway… 🙄

  • recent shows that were way worse than the manga: faraway paladin, helck.

anime famous for this issue: berserk, tokyo ghoul, any Junji ito project

popular older anime that have this issue that aren’t as talked about: blue exorcist (though that one’s currently getting a retcon heavy sequel) trigun (the new 3d series is way more manga accurate) honestly… mostly any 90s-2000s action series. they were really caught in the weekly production aspect of it and it led to terrible pacing and tons of filler. things have gotten better.

like, one piece is terrible to watch straight. i can’t recommend anyone actually slog through what the anime was doing during dreserosa. watch the one pace fan edit, or read the manga.

Naruto is another one that got horribly butchered. especially at the end. straight up, as soon as the infinite tsukiyomoi starts, just switch to the manga for like 10 chapters, then go back to the anime. it’ll save you OVER 100 EPISODES. you can’t even just skip them as filler either. they just took each panel and stretched it into an entire arc. that means that there’s still important shit happening that you can’t actually miss… it’s horrible. they just couldn’t let it die. they wrung that shit out like a dirty wash cloth. shameful.

adaptation is hard. you can’t truly capture every last detail of a manga in an anime. it also leads to things that make more sense in manga pacing coming through a but funny at times. for example, this is largely where the whole giant anime attack thing comes from. in manga, that build up tension for a free pages then there’s like one giant full page glorious piece of art showing a single punch connect. that’s just how manga moves. that’s why some people really anime original action series. the action is likely to be more dynamic and fluid. take cowboy bebop for example. that action would’ve translated terribly into manga. it’s to small, to precise, too fast, and moves too much. that’s why it’s really worthy of praise when they go above and beyond to make something really work well.

hell, sometimes you can even make something completely different that people still like. take the shining or Lord of the rings for example. most people don’t even realize how incredibly different lotr is in the movie from the books. the movies have a much much broader appeal be kinda almost sorta inverting the message of the books and pissing all over their intent. they’re supposed to be anti war stories that show how horrible war is and that there is no honor to be found in it. there is only chaos and carnage and loss. the heroes aren’t bold and brave and strong. they’re terrified and panicked and none of them want to be there. none of the battle scenes are long or detailed. that’s all the movies. there are no great victories. they only ever barely escape the ever encroaching enemy at a great loss and with much remorse.

the movies are action adventure films about Big strong heroes triumphing over the bad guys. that’s almost the opposite of what Tolkien wanted. and yet, they’re so popular. like, are the movies bad? no. they’re great movies that are tremendously entertaining and captured my heart and soul as a child.

I don’t have the energy to go into the shining the same way anymore… but my point is, adaptation is tricky. you’ll never make everyone happy and maybe that doesn’t matter.

  • Huh… That first season was so mediocre. The original show is heavily flawed and I was kind of looking forward to the first season because of that, But It’s just so bland. The art is very average and uninteresting the voice acting is fine, which is a big step up from the og. The music is way worse in the new one. The pacing is better. It’s a really mixed bag. They fixed the weak areas a little, but also lost most of what made it good in the first place.

IDK… I really wanted a new and improved Kenshin, but I’m not sure why this is even getting a second season. Was it popular in Japan? No one I know watched it over here.

  • it’s one of the only commonly known messaging platform to most people that:

1: isn’t owned by a company that many people hate, even if they don’t know much about it.

    2: isn’t platform locked and doesn’t discriminate.

3: doesn’t require money or verification to use.

i can see how it’s kinda settled out this way. whatsapp never caught on in the u.s. because everyone here was happy with sms and mms when the rest of the world was picking up Whatsapp. from what i understand that’s literally just because texting was cheap in the u.s… now people want more than mms, but apple is being apple about it so we need a third party app. by this point Whatsapp is owned by Facebook and the “privacy” of it is openly mocked by the average non tech person. everyone hates Facebook so the idea of willingly adopting another Facebook messenger that you’re not already on seems crazy. anyone that would accept that is just going to use Facebook messenger instead. anyone that wouldn’t will find something better.

Snapchat has no big controversies. no one knows who owns them. they don’t really try to be more than a messaging platform. i can see why people would uncritically choose it as their default. i bet it’s big among the kids who don’t play that whole blue bubble iphone supremacy game, but don’t use discord either. so i guess the non nerdy kids that aren’t elitist dicks. that’s who I’d guess uses it amongst the youth these days.

edit: before the suggestions come, I know these aren’t good solutions. I’m just theorizing why. getting my friends on matrix as best i can…

  • from Wikipedia:

" Mulvey of NME described “Seven Nation Army” as a “diatribe against fame”.[17] The song’s lyrics were inspired by the growing attention received by the White Stripes. According to Jack White, the song tells the story of a person who, upon entering a town, hears its residents gossiping about him and proceeds to leave the town in response. Driven by a sense of loneliness, he ultimately returns. Regarding the song’s meaning, White stated, “The song’s about gossip. It’s about me, Meg and the people we’re dating.”[3] Maginnis described the lyrics as presenting an “obstinate attitude”, citing the opening lines: “I’m gonna fight 'em off / A seven nation army couldn’t hold me back / They’re gonna rip it off / Taking their time right behind my back”.[8]"
