Technology@lemmy.world•The price of AI is crashing faster than the rate of Moore's Law — intelligence costs are in freefall, outpacing comparative technologies like compute, DNA sequencing, and lithium batteriesEnglish
131·12 days agoI’ve been starting to think that once the bubble begins to pop, the US will bail out the banks by buying up their loans to hyperscalers, and they’ll start writing giant surveillance contracts to AI companies to compensate for the lack of demand. The rich get richer and the resulting stock corrections will end up hurting regular people most

Technology@lemmy.world•Class Action Lawsuit Alleges Flock Enables Law Enforcement Personnel to Misuse Vehicle Location Info for Surveillance, StalkingEnglish
7·1 month agoI don’t know what would make it possible, but wouldn’t collective legal action against the local governments make more sense than attacking Flock specifically? Maybe both would be appropriate- but at the end of the day, PDs bought this and are themselves carrying out these unconstitutional behaviors without the consent of citizens. Also I’ve heard there are other Flock-adjacent companies selling the same service
I think that folds pretty well into both points A (reserving personal hardware for the wealthy) and point B (the ability to mandate software installations is a valuable mass surveillance touch-point)
The people inflating the bubble have to know what they’re doing, right? It’s hard to come up with an economic scenario where the market doesn’t crash and burn as a result.
I can’t shake the feeling that two key motivations for bleeding all this cash are A. For moving more wealth to the top (which, y’know, is already happening in umpteen different ways beyond AI), and B. For quickly building surveillance infrastructure, seeing as how eager the Pentagon/DHS is about AI
