The sporter-1 instructions say to insert the trigger assembly per the below…

  1. put ruger pings into trigger group and press the trigger group into the lower from the top down (should kinda click in)

however when doing so the length in the model is about 30mm. ruger pins are about 32mm in length. so the ruger pin will not fit into the lower receiver with reagrds to the rear pin slot.

is this expected ?

in looking at the sporter2 receiver, the pin slots are a little over 32mm… so both ruger pins fit. see attached.

so in sum the length of the receiver pin slots are as below.

sporter1

rear slot - 30.18mm front slot - 32.40mm

sporter2

rear slot - 32.40mm front slot - 32.40mm

below is the sporter 1 rear receiver slot

btw…

i am building both a sporter1 and a sporter2.

i have a 10inch 10/22 barrel (sporter 1) and i have a 20inch 10/22 barrel. (sporter 2)

to complete my sporter 1 , while using the ruger oem receiver pins, can i combine a sporter 1 upper with a sporter 2 lower ?

so i just cut the head off a m5-30 bolt. that ‘fixes’ this issue.

some other fitment issues with this sporter1 model. which is probably why the sporter2 has some fixes to the receiver… just wish the sporter 2 supported a handguard for 10inch barrels.

guess another reason for me to learn cad.

so i took my two sporters out to the range… these are my observations.

the sporter-1 seems to be slightly out of spec. causing malfunctions, etc. which somewhat tracks since i had to use different sized receiver pins… which was probably enough to through things out of spec.

sporter-2-xl seems to have corrected and tightened things up, so this build ran without issue starting with round 1.
