The Trash Panda has now released! https://odysee.com/@TheGatalog-PrintableFramesReceivers:9/The-Trash-Panda:a
Has anyone tried this in 9mm or .45acp yet? I didn’t know if the lever would help keep a PCC bolt closed, stopping the need to wildcat a bolt and barrel combo? Sorry if it’s a ridiculous question, as I’m not familiar with the action on this…yet!!
bro what!? this is weird af looking but it makes me want it more. that carbon fiber lever is sick lol dam man this is cool af, looking forward to this one
How much does this weird beauty run to make? I’m really liking the idea of taking one to the range and seeing what everyone thinks.
I’d estimate $400 if you don’t have a lot of standard hardware, to ~$250 if you do.
I have a roll of PA6-CF waiting on this one!!!
given that it is less pressure, do you believe that it can be a platform for .50 beowulf/458 socom/350 etc?
It’s should be compatible, but apart from 350 I don’t know if anyone has tried the larger calibers.
I know the documentation says 5.56/300 blackout but is there any reason this wouldn’t work with other AR-15 calibers?
It should work with any caliber that uses standard AR15 bolts and barrels. x39, 6.5 grendel, 350 legend, 458 socom, etc.
That’s what I like to hear. I’m probably going to build one in 6.5 Grendel.
Genuine question on this because I’m dumb- would this not affect the magazine situation? Like if I wanted to do this in say a .223 instead of 5.56 would the ammo still load up in the magazine? Or if I went up to a 6.5 wouldn’t the barrel not fit as designed and likewise the mag situation would need to change as well?
Any AR compaible bolt and barrel should work, but not all of them have been tested. The internals that the AR parts mount to are identical, so barring a caliber that operates outside the standard spec it should be fine.
Thanks- just finished the upper components!
Any info on the integral suppressor mentioned in the readme? I’m definitely making one of these but if I can save on a barrel that’ll be used in that I’d buy it now
It’s still in progress, but the barrel I’m using to develop it is this one if you want to ensure everything is compatible. I don’t know what variances there are in exact lengrhs so I might just recommend this specific one. https://ar15discounts.com/products/7-5-300-blk-17-black-nitride-barrel/
Do you happen to have an approximate length for the suppressor assembly or is it just 7.5"? I’d like to get started on the form 1 for the rifle and suppressor
It works out to 36 inches in length.
Does that make the supressor assembly around 16" then? Trying to work it out from the step files
It uses an FTN 4.5, which works out to 9 inches, then it has an expansion chamber around the ported barrel. That works out to roughly the same length as the unsuppressed TP with a 16in barrel.
Thank you
The assembly PDF says a 36 gauge drill bit, but the link goes to a 37 gauge. 37 is closer to 2.5mm which I think is the tap size for M3. Does it matter which one?
There are different tolerances for tapping into either metal or plastic, and in this case both 36 and 37 are in tolerance and were used in development. It’s my bad I missed putting the wrong link in the docs :P but either works.
Perfect, thank you
Thank you! So excited for this build
Just wondering if I’ve missed something I just finished putting mine together(threading the bcg was a bitch) but is there way to any lock open the lever to load it? The return springs on mine make me hold it open to load the magazine. I was wondering if a button could be modeled in to the left side of the gun to hold open the bolt. Otherwise its an amazing build. And a great way to break in my new centauri carbon. And im testing ppa-cf for the lever arms and any parts that touches the barrel.
I’ve heard from some builders that they had a similar problem with you when trying to get the bolt to hold open. In theory it should be close enough to stay on its own but there are clearly enough variances in individual parts to cause problems. A bolt holdopen is something I’ll look into but if it is too much of a problem, simply removing one of the springs would be a simple solution for the time being.
Thanks, I’ll try that and see. I also bought a weaker set of springs and I will try that too.
How long do I have to wait? 🥹
Until approximately now! https://odysee.com/@TheGatalog-PrintableFramesReceivers:9/The-Trash-Panda:a
Yoooo let’s gooo
