I have a glock 19 gen 3 austria oem slide, combined with all oem lower parts and a set of aves rails, but the problem is that once I install all the parts, it’s super tight and stiff when installing the slide.
For example, when inserting the slide onto the rails, at first, it’s quite stiff, but not too tight, but once the slide reaches the trigger bar, it starts to get very tight and stops, then I have to apply some force to get it through, then, once it reaches the rear rail, i pretty much have to shove it back to get it on there.
Once the slide is installed, if I rack the slide back and let go, it goes forward, but doesn’t go all the way into battery. I have not oiled/lube the slide, but even without lube, this seems way too tight.
When watching the DD17.2 assembly video, Ivan had no problem getting an OEM slide on. Any advice?


That indicates either your slide is damaged or the rails are out of spec. Max width of the rail block should be less than 23mm and the thickness of the rail “tabs” should be less than 1mm. If your front rail is over that, you can contact the vendor for replacement, or carefully file it down by hand.
If your front rail is in spec and still binding on a genuine Glock slide, then your slide may have some damage to the rails. It’s also possible that it is just gunked up with carbon since some people seem to take pride in never cleaning their guns (binding near the ejection port is suspicious). Carefully inspect the rail channels in the slide. They should be perfectly uniform and completely clean. If you can’t smoothly run a pick down the rail channel, that’s a problem.
I measured the width of the rail, and it’s 23.01mm or 23.00mm. Not sure if “tabs” refers to the width of the outwards slabs, but I measured those at 1.36mm and 1.29mm. The OEM slide I purchased was pretty clean, but I just cleaned it thoroughly now. Would it be acceptable to try and throw the OEM slide on a PSA dagger lower to see if it fits on there to establish the problem being the slide or the rails?
Yes, testing the slide on a Dagger lower is a great idea.
The other rail dimension I was suggesting you check is this one:
The “spec” is 1.4 but in my experience that’s a little too thick. The JC-Arms rails (which I’ve had 100% success with) measure closer to 1.0mm in this dimension.
So I went ahead and tested the Glock slide on a PSA dagger, and it works perfectly with much smoother movement, so fortunately the slide isn’t the issue. I also tried putting a dagger slide on the aves rails and it also had a lot of resistance. Seems like Aves isn’t very high quality, or maybe I just got a bad batch.
You can try reaching out to Aves and see what they say, but their support can be a little inconsistent. I’d just grab a flat file and take about 0.2 - 0.3 mm off the top surface and see if that corrects things.
For future reference, I’ve tried several vendors and https://jc-arms.com/ is now my “go to” for FMDA-style rails. I’ve never gotten a bad one and the price is really fair for the quality.
