Two days after being placed on a paid leave of absence, Matt Mullenweg says he has been reinstated as CEO of Automattic, according to a Slack message seen by TechCrunch. WordPress Executive Director Mary Hubbard confirmed Mullenweg’s return to the CEO role in a Friday post on X, which the official WordPress account shared and Mullenweg reposted.

Wishing death on someone just because they’re a flagrant asshole is pretty extreme, no? That’s fucking wild if you’re serious.

The Nazis would have loved your level of inhumanity with the Jews back in the 1940s

Nobody is born a CEO. Hating people for their ethnicity, sexuality or disability is inhumane, but that’s not who we’re talking about here. This is about someone that chooses to be a vile, parasitic extortionist.

You can’t just stop being a Jew, but it’s very easy to stop being a CEO.

Edit: It occurs to me that this might read like jewish, gay or disabled people cause damage, so I should clarify: Being jewish, gay or disabled isn’t harmful. There is nothing in common betweem the people the Nazis persecuted and the CEOs we’re talking about here.

Still missing the point. Completely. Matt is an asshat. No disagreement there. But that’s not something that warrants him being killed.

There is a difference between wanting him to be killed and looking forward to enjoy his death in a comedic fashion.

If he had a tragic death, that would kind of take the gas out of it.

I’m aware of the point, but I wanted to point out that the Nazi comparison doesn’t work. Whether it warrants hoping for his death is a separate question, but there’s a qualitative difference between voluntary asshattery and persecuting people for things outside their control and regardless of the harm they do.

Looking down on them is fine. Wishing death on them simply because you’re jealous and full of hate that they have more money than you is entirely different. And it seems that person is the latter.

Seems how? They didn’t say anything like that. You think the issue with this guy is because he’s rich and nothing else?

The funny thing is I’ve seen people saying the exact same thing you are to people laughing at Charlie Kirk getting killed, while doing their best to ignore all the things he stood for, said, and did. Right down to immediately accusing the person of adopting (an incorrect idea of) Nazism by not valuing all lives as precious. Just think about the brainpower behind people who think those laughing at Charlie Kirk are like the Nazis but not Charlie “Civil Rights was a mistake” Kirk.

There’s gotta be a term for people who get all righteous about treating all lives as precious while they ignore that the person in question actively makes the world worse.

Their response was in direct to my reply that someone shouldn’t be killed just for being an asshole, and they said “unless it’s a CEO”. I don’t know how you don’t comprehend that.

Are you going to code a replacement?

That’s why. Everyone hates it, but not enough to hunker down and euthanize it.

Honestly coding a replacement wouldn’t be difficult, there’re already a few alternatives out there, it’s the thousands of plugins you’d need to replace.

One of the issues with alternatives like ghost is not having a good plugin system.

Oh I’m aware. In a way the plugin ecosystem is also one of the biggest issues with wordpress, it’s full of freemium garbage that violates the spirit and in many cases the letter of the GPL.

But the point is that if you want a complete replacement for wordpress, it isn’t just a blogging system you have to replicate. You also have to in some way replicate a forum, form builders, activitypub, an e-commerce system, calendar, booking system, SEO, page caching, ERP, CRM, etc.

I work with WordPress professionally and honestly I really do enjoy the platform, there’s a lot of it that’s very good. Having said that, none of my personal projects are on WordPress. Most of them are on Hugo and soon a lot of them will be on 11ty.

Wordpress has a lot of security issues due to its age and modularity. At some point devs needed to just say no, they never did, and now it’s everyone’s problem

Its like its the middle of winter and the forecast says its going to be sunny an relatively warm on the weekend. Then you wake up Saturday and it’s freezing rain and thunder.
