They didn’t start as secessionist movements, they started as protest movements for autonomy after an illegal and violent fascist coup that toppled their elected government. They didn’t want to have policies imposed on them by a central government that hates their language and their history and their culture.

This all happened before any intervention by Russia. The coup government in Kiev launched the civil war by sending in first fascist paramilitaries and then the actual military to suppress the protests. The protesters armed themselves and joined with defectors from the army to defend their communities. Only then Russia started providing support.

Only one of the two countries still holds elections. Zelensky is a dictator whose legal term has long since expired who fears elections because he knows he will lose. He has banned all opposition parties and opposition media. Putin has a 70%+ approval rating and always holds elections on schedule.

Complete and utter nonsense. Everyone, including the Western architects of this conflict, admits that the number one cause of the conflict was NATO expansion. On top of that the 2014 coup, and Ukraine’s brazen refusal to implement the Minsk agreements made escalation inevitable. Also, recreating the USSR would be a good thing. Unfortunately Putin has no intention of doing that.

Which was after the people of Crimea and Donbass rose up to oppose an illegal US orchestrated fascist coup in Kiev that installed a Nazi puppet regime that persecutes Russian speakers and hates the people of Eastern Ukraine. The people of Crimea wanted no part of that and voted to leave Ukraine, and Russia protected them from the fascist thugs that were terrorizing Eastern Ukraine.

There is no insurgency because the people of Eastern Ukraine hate the fascist Kiev regime and welcome the Russians as liberators. The Ukrainian Nazis know this and are extra brutal toward the people in Eastern Ukraine, who they hate and terrorize and kill just like Israelis do to Palestinians.

As a result the people in Eastern Ukraine give away positions of the fascists to the Russian army and offer shelter to Russian soldiers, who in turn give them more help than any Ukrainian government ever has.

Russia has no intention to annex all of Ukraine and never has. Only the historic Russian regions full of Russian speaking people who are being persecuted and genocided by the Nazi regime. And even that they only do reluctantly because Ukraine left them no choice when it refused to abide by the Minsk agreements and shelled the Donbass for eight years.

Remember when all the pro-Ukraine people were saying that the Russian army is totally unprepared for winter and they would all freeze to death, unlike the Ukrainians who are used to fighting in the winter? That was a serious narrative some people were actually spreading.
